city lost all the money. we'll talk to the couple. let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. and it certainly has and still is. good morning, america. i'm back from vacation. george heads off on vacation. >> he's a smart man. >> a smart man. >> wonderful to have our good friend chris cuomo with us. we have you out west to thank in part for what we're getting. remember all that rain they had out west? >> it's like a frozen hurricane. some of the worst flooding in 20 years in massachusetts. still a developing situation 37. >> it's a dire situation. >> we still don't know when a lot of people are going to get

help. >> did you hear the thunder in the city last night? >> thunder snow they were calling it. >> it lets you know the intensity of blizzard. if for sam champion we have chikage windler. this is nothing for you, i imagine. >> we're used to this. the big apple however, a different story. the snow has tapered off. the wind is something fierce. jackpot snowfall total in bergen county new jersey 29 inches of snow. and then the hurricane-force winds. hurricane force winds with gusts up to 80 miles an hour. much of new england buryied, up to 2 1/2 feet of snow. states of emergency issued in six states. new jersey took a bull's eye with as many as 30 inches. snow drifts up to five feet.

buses and cars dozens of motorists stranded on roads. >> there's 50 cars behind us. the drifts are piling up. it's getting dangerous. >> reporter: massachusetts, up to 16 inches. at least 60,000 customers without power. and coastal flooding, 2 to 3 feet of water, the worst in 20 years. whiteout conditions in philadelphia. 15 inches. the eagles/vikings nfl game postponed because of dangerous roads. in manhattan, up to 1 1/2 feet, rare lightning and thunder called thunder snow. 1,400 flights canceled at new york's three major airports. amtrak service suspended between new york and maine and for those brave enough to commute, it's impossible to get in any way. even the long island railroad, the country's largest commuter railroad, stopped running. this storm which brought record rainfall and flooding to california last week setting snow records as far south as georgia and the carolinas with its fury directed on much of the northeast. the snow is really coming down now.

the spot where i'm standing, 6 to 7 inches of snow. despite that, we found one intrepid street vendor not giving up on his fellow new yorkers. even if it gets worse, you're going to stay open? >> oh, yeah, i'm going to stay open every day. >> even if you wanted to give it a shot, it's horrible. you know, you got knee-deep, hip-deep snowdrifts out there. >> reporter: here in new york city a standstill even with 1,700 snowplows, many of the streets remain unplowed. cars, buses stranded. as with much of new england this morning, the city that never sleeps brought to its knees. and this storm as the potential to be the second biggest snowstorm for new york city in december. look how much more we could see. snowfall totals possible still around an inch or 2 in boston. 5, 6 inches through new england.

then the wind gust potential. the peak wind gusts, 80 miles an hour through cape cod. possibly wind gusts through 60 miles an hour. winds bust thing here in new york city around 40 miles per hour. even though the snow is tapering down, we're not done with the storm. not by a long shot. >> and that's the point. lots of people stranded. hundreds here on the subway. john hamilton stuck on a subway for over six hours. here's an excerpt from an interview. >> going into six hours, 20 minutes. they're giving us the usual. telling us there will be a rescue train. there's though rescue. there's no heat on the train. we can't use bathrooms. people are coming from the

airports. some people from work. we're in the eating. we're like captive audience. we can't move. we're stuck here. and it's cold. and transit authority is not giving us any answer. people are mad, people are sleeping, people are crying. it's a mixture of all different emotions. but we're stuck in a train. they're not getting us any answers how long we're going to be on here. it's not good. >> and for those of you out west, this happened early this morning on the east coast. still going on now. still no rescue in sight for them. up in massachusetts, the governor decared ate state of emergency. you'll hear those words a lot. not just snow not just wind. but now flooding.

let's get to jeremy hubbard. he's monitoring the late es sfwlp it's still blowing and snowing here in boston with no end in sight. about 12 inches on the ground. we're at boston common. we've been measuring. we have about 10 inches here. it continues to stack up. there's a spot here where the plows have piled up the snow. one report of 80-mile-an-hour wind gusts. it's causing flooding. some people had to be rescued with a front end loader. not the thing you would associate with a blizzard. another sign of how dangerous the storm is chris? >> thank you jeremy. as cow can hear and probably see, the wind is whipping here. it's keeping planes on the ground. thousands of flights canceled here. a ripple effect across the country to where you are in the west. let's get to mike von fremd at

the airport in los angeles with the latest. mike? >> reporter: good morning, chris. if you're traveling in the west to the west, krns good. if you're trying to get to the northeast, or have loved ones from the northeast trying to get out west it's a mess. the domino effect is in place. flight delays in los angeles to france, at least a 15-minute delay. flights to the northeast are canceled. we talked to a couple honeymooning from hawaii. they won't be able to get back east for a week. they seem thrilled to have an extended honeymoon in southern california. >> american airlines called us. they said our flight was canceled from dallas to norfolk. we canned if we could get laid

over in l.a. instead of dallas because we knew people in l.a. they were nice enough to let us stop here for the week. and keep us some what happy about it. >> reporter: sounds like they did you solid to me? >> they did pretty good. it's an extension of our honeymoon. >> reporter: they can only look at the people back east and feel sorry for them. >> let's get a sense of what is going on. it started here on the west coast. a system that was out here. all the rain they had out there. it moved here to the east coast. it is as lit up like a christmas tree. this deep blue is a deep freeze. that is considering the crops there this florida. the red here is still blizzard warning. in georgia, a white christmas in

atlanta for the first time in 100 years. let's look at the snow totals. to give you a sense of an idea of what's going on here. 30 inches here in the new york metro area. this continues on. atlantic city, 20 inches. moving up still in the east coast. boston, 16 inches and counting. so many people are trying to get back home after celebrating christmas on saturday. and the traffic situation is just as you would expect. the green is everything is going all right. closer to new york, the red is at a stand still. we were tell youg erpier about the stranded motorists. they're having a tough time. linsey davis is at new york's laguardia airport for us. >> reporter: good morning, robin. hotel laguardia is up and running. people are brushing hair and

teeth in the bathrooms preparing for another potentially full day here at the airport. flights won't leave until 2:00 p.m. this blizzard has stopped traffic cold. >> it may be tuesday when we get to go home. >> reporter: all three major new york airports shut down. all flights still suspended. the 250 passengers stranded at laguardia were grateful for cots. >> hopefully, we make it to india the day after tomorrow. my wedding is a week and a half. >> reporter: there was a moment of hope that jason would take off afterall when his flight boarded at 5:00 p.m. then he started tweeting about the 4 1/2 hour ordeal from the tarmac. >> the wind was going at 40 or 50 miles an hour.

we started to shake. >> reporter: delta canceled about one-sixth of its schedule. united airlines canceled 1 so flights. waer woes felt all the way to the west coast 37. >> it's all right to get to vegas. from vegas to philadelphia, it stops. . >> reporter: national rail service also facing disruptingsons. this family is still desperately trying to get to california 24 hours later. >> hopefully catch a flight to l.a. in the morning. >> reporter: highways became so dangerous that greyhound bus service was suspended. >> it's frustrating. it's cold. where aim going sleep? >> reporter: that was a question for many last night, including several nfl teams. the giants spent the night in wisconsin. and the patriots stranded in

buffalo, new york had to be bussed to rochester to find available hotel rooms. and behind me, straight down on the screens, "canceled." people taking comfort in a cot here. whether you're traveling by plane, train, or bus today you're being urged to call ahead before you head out today. the interruptions could continue through tomorrow. new jersey, people are stranded on the highways right now. let's get to stephen jones with the new jersey state police. can you hear me? >> i can. >> good morning. thank you for being with us. it's an urgent situation. a stranded bus? >> there was two buses straned out there. they were coming from the casinos going north toward new york.

they had been stranded for a number of hours. we got reports of orlando people on the bus, some with diabetes. and the troopers not able to get out there, commandeered a front end loader. took stuff from the police station for the people to eat. >> what do we know about the situation with the bus? sit running? do they have heat? >> they do have heat. it is running. hay they had enough fuel to keep it warm. they found that nobody was suffering from a medical emergency at this point. >> families being notified? >> not at this point. we have one bus freed out of the two. we're hoping to get that other one moving soon. >> timing is important. you're doing all you can. based on the situation, how long do you think it will take to get

help? >> it depends on where they are. many times on the toll roads here, we have the onramps and offramps blocked. people have gone on gotten stuck, and then the cars get covered over with snow. >> thank you, sergeant jones. good luck getting to those people. robin? >> one of those people has been stranded since 10:00 p.m. last night. what is the situation for you, sir? how long have you been there? we heard sergeant jones saying they're trying to get to you. what is your situation like right now, sir? >> we've been stuck now for about 8 1/2 hours. like you said, the offramps were closed. we had to stop. there's no visibility. we were following the car in front of us. two families traveling with us.

we have four children and one special needs infant. and so we have been in the car now for almost nine hours. there's ray of hope in the last couple of minutes. a front loader has shown up. they're moving snow ahead of us. that's the first ray of hope in hours. >> that has to be a welcome sight. any supplies for you? >> no we were coming from a wedding. once we got on the road there was not any way to get off. there was a smaller car up front not able to stay in the track. any ones that tried to get out of the lane ended up sliding. we ended up stuck. the drifts with waste high now.

it's going to take quite a bit to get us out of here. >> yeah. but are you warm? are you able to keep -- do you have blankets or anything? >> important to -- fortunately, we had a couple of blankets and a full tank of gas. so we're fortunate. but there's a row of probably 50 cars behind us, maybe more. and i have no doubt that, you know, some of those must be running low on fuel. we weren't able to run the car all night long. so -- but we were able to make it through, and, like i say, there's a front loader up ahead. so hopefully within the hour, we'll be able to get out of here. >> we certainly hope that's the case for you. give our -- just thank you so much for joining us. we appreciate it very much. a special needs infant like that, he seems very calm. and sergeant jones is trying to get to them as quickly as they can. we have this time lapse that gives you an idea. this was the view outside of our office yesterday afternoon. traffic still moving pretty fast, as can you see. this time lapse so we'll speed it up, of course. >> you take a look at different views. this is lincoln center.

you take a look at the entrance to the george washington bridge. and you'll see how the snow has been piling up it happens so quickly, and that's going to be trouble especially as the wind and snow keeps coming. >> i know, all of those gusts like that. just outside boston they're bearing the brunt of the storm right now. it's coming at about 2 to 4 inches an hour in boston, as we see as it continues to grow. >> we keep saying this morning, developing situation, even if the snow's not falling, the emergency's still there. so let's get a look at the weather around the nation right now. let's get back to chikage windler. chikage? >> reporter: right now, we're still dealing with blizzard warnings for seven states all the way to new england. rain likely for places like seattle. across the nation, we're finally drying out in southern california. with a deep freeze in the deep south.

and now we have a strange story out of st. louis about a death at the busch mansion. the model girlfriend of the heir to the budweiser beer fortune was found dead. but 40 minutes passed before anyone calls for help. clayton sandell takes a closer look. >> emergency, 911. >> reporter: it all started with a mysterious call for help. >> okay. what's the problem? >> this girl is just not waking up. we can't get her to -- >> is she breathing? >> we don't know. >> reporter: eight minutes later police and paramedics arrive to find 27-year-old adrienne martin, an aspiring model, dead. a police report says there were no apparent signs of trauma. martin was found in a house owned by august busch iv, the wealthy former ceo of the anheuser-busch brewing dynasty responsible for those famous beer ads. >> bud. >> weis. >> er. >> bud. >> weis. >> er. >> reporter: her friends tell the local paper she had been

dating busch for several months. she divorced another man earlier this year and had an 8-year-old son. >> she was very active. she was always out walking with her son and i just can't believe it. >> reporter: busch's attorney issued a statement saying there was nothing to suggest anything suspicious, calling it a tragic and untimely death. still, reports say when martin was found, it took 40 minutes before anyone at the busch home called 911. >> okay. all right, i'll get them going right away. >> reporter: august busch has a history of run-ins with police investigating in 1983 after driving away from a tucson, arizona, bar. driving away, there was a crash. his passenger, a 22-year-old female, was killed. busch was never charged. a medical examiner's report on exactly what killed adrienne martin could take six weeks. for "good morning america," clayton sandell, abc news, los angeles. >> a lot of folks want to know what took so long to make that call to 911. we're going to have much more on the blizzard of 2010

changed again. it seems to have died down. and it's a heavy wet snow the kind of that knocks down power lines. that's what's happened overnight in massachusetts. 66,000 people without power. sustained winds of 20 miles per how much. gusts of 50 miles per hour. hurricane-force winds causing coastal flooding it is a mess throughout this region. >> all right jeremy. thank you. we'll be checking with you throughout the morning. but right now, they watched their million-dollar dreams go down the drain. on the fox game though "million dollar money drop" this couple made a bet and lost $800,000 when they got it wrong. or did they get it wrong? that's the question. >> "a," macintosh, computer, okay. >> which of these were sold in stores first? >> it was a key moment in this new game show is that gives contestants $1 million and takes it away if they don't know the right answer. gabe okoye convinced his girlfriend brittany mayti to bet $800,000 that post-it notes were invented first. and on money drop that's just what the money did. a crush to okoye and mayti, but it it wasn't until they returned to their home in southern california that they learned that the money drawn was a mistake. a mistake brought to viewers launching an internet backlash against fox, suggesting that they pay up. it turns out 3-m sold the post-it under the name "press

and peel." after denial the producers finally admitted unfortunately, the information our research department originally obtained was incomplete. we feel it is only fair to give our contestants, gabe and brittany, another shot to play "million dollar money drop." joining us live is gabe and brittany. it is so good to have you on the program with us. we know we saw the edited version of what happened after the money dropped. brittany, can you tell us some things in the studio that we didn't see? >> what you didn't see was about 15 minutes of everyone trying to get gabe back into playing the rest of the game. i never seen him cry before. it was the worst thing ever. he was devastated -- he was worried that, he didn't go with me. this was going to be a $800,000 decision that he would have to make up to me forever.

we would be driving in the car, i'd say make a right, he would listen to me regardless because he was so hurt. it was a horrible sight to see. it was horrible. >> gabe you knew you had the answer right didn't you? that's why you were willing to bet all that money? >> i was. i did know that i had the answer correct. i was actually very sure. i knew it because i had actually known some of the history of the post- post-it note a while back where i kind of learned about it. >> has this put a little bit of a strain on your relationship? you guys are a couple were you talking a little bit, brittany about how it could stay with you for a while? >> yeah just the fact of it was kind of annoying where he was kind of sometimes sarcastically saying i was always right. that was only the issue there. or if we were trying to purchase something or do something for our families we were like wow,

we would have had $800,000 if it wasn't for post-it notes. seeing a post-it note at work traumatized us. i couldn't look at them. we came together and realized how much we loved each other. losing that much money and staying together is a big accomplishment. >> the show was taped, we should repeat again it was taped a few months ago, but had you to keep silent all this time until the episode aired last week. gabe, did you run home and start checking it, checking the information? >> yes. that night, i actually checked the information, and it said 1977. and i was just -- i was really just surprised. i wanted to bring it up to brittany but i was afraid to because i didn't want to go through that. and, you know i just really thought that fox kind of did their research for a game show

to be in the business of asking contestants questions. i would assume that they do their research on their own questions. >> right. and we heard their statement and how they were saying they got the wrong information from 3-m. then when viewers saw what happened, they were the ones i know you didn't want to come across as a sore loser, gabe -- >> right exactly. >> here's the $800,000 question will you go back on the show as they invited you to? >> currently, we haven't made a solid decision on that matter. they have offered but we haven't responded with a decision yet. >> it's a very tough decision. we've been asked to go back on and start all over, it's kind of hard to re-create the momentum. >> adrenaline and all of that. it's hard to go back to that situation, who knows what the outcome may be again if we decide to go on.

it was very stressful. a lot of anxiety involved. a lot of sweat and tears. >> tears, yeah. >> some people are saying that you should be given the $800,000. what do you think about that? >> you know we weren't really faced with an option. so, i mean that would be a consideration, i mean what do you think? >> i mean if that's their decision, that's their decision. >> he knows all the answers, though. >> gabe, you're in for it man. you're never going to hear the end of it. >> you guys are really good sports about it. let us know if you decide to go back on the program. and all the best. i know you were saying you were hoping you could win some money and have that wedding and get married. is that still an option? >> that is still an option. other things have come up in our lives where that money could have drastically helped out both of our families as well. you always think "what if." >> yeah. we know you're full-time

three new york area airports are closed. what that means for people in other parts of the country is that there there be a backup of delays and cancellations even in places where you might be seeing sunny skies. good news amtrak just resumed limited service between new york and boston. bus companies like mega bus, they suspended all operations for today. 2,000 flights canceled today. thousands of people looking. >> lots of people trying to figure out what to do. first step what are your rights gentleman what are you entitled to if you're stranded? >> your right is to get on the next available flight. as we know because of holiday travel season because there are people traveling there are nature that many available seats. so it may take a while. you're also entitled to a refund in your dmriegt is canceled. finally, every major airline has issued a flexible travel. if you want to postpone your trip to a later date if you have the opportunity to do that i

would recommend doing so. >> the bottom line it's survival of the fastest, right? >> you know what airlines like jetblue are helping people over twitter. you can use social neededed me media. tweet your confirmation number. don't go to the airport. there's very little you can accomplish at the airport that you can't accomplish from the comfort of your own home or hotel room over the phone. be as flexible as possible. maybe you can't get on a flight to new york city maybe can you get take a train, really that's what you want to think about, moving in the right direction. >> know guarantee that that they'll put you up. they don't have to give you a hotel. what about helping yourself online then? what sites can you go to? >> you may be able to rebook yourself online. there are times when talking to a real live person is better than booking online. a real life person will have all the options, they can talk to

people are stranded. we have each other to try to stay bundled together. a lot of people dealing with the situation. people waiting for help out there. thousands of flights canceled. people stuck inside of airports around the coast. still happening. >> we've been talking to people already stranded at the subway. the poor father that was out with the two families on the highway. we'll update you on the situation that is ongoing. also, we have other news for you, don't want to be out driving in this at all, if you do, please do not text. especially teens, you know how they are about texting. and we have some new information along those lines. and also, many of us looking for a job, and tory johnson is going to be along. pause we're looking forward to 2011, so a rough year for a lot of people. what a way to end the year with the blizzard. but tory johnson will have that. the big story, the developing situation, certainly up in boston, jeremy hubbard is up there. he's watching the situation. they're dealing with flooding up there as well this morning. jeremy, what's latest? >> reporter: good morning, chris. the shovels are out. a big digout.

a foot snow on the ground that continues to fall. winds continue to gust. reports of 50-mile-an-hour gusts, even a report of 80-mile-an-hour gusts. we spent the overnight hour tracking the progress of the storm as it progressively got worse, in the hardest-hit part of the country. here in massachusetts, a state of emergency. frozen hurricane-force winds, blinding snow. >> it's brutal. >> windy, cold, wet. >> the worst part is that we have to be off for no reason at all. >> reporter: 60,000 people without power. 2 to 3 feet of floodwaters along the coast. highways into much of boston practically abandoned. it's pounding portland, new haven, providence, boston. new england is the hardest hit part of the country. the snow stacking up. we are spending the night in the thick of it. this is boston's samuel hall.

it's 9:00 p.m. this is the where the storm is supposed to start. the snow continues. it's 11:00 outside of boston fenway park. you can see they're still trying to plow and stay on top of it. but it is difficult to manage. now, things have really gone from bad to worse. it's 1:00 in the morning. here is the atlantic ocean. this is where the storm does start to mimic the hurricane. it could cause widespread coastal flooding. not the sort of thing you normally associate with a blizzard, but further evidence of the power and danger of this unpredictable storm. and, again, that coastal flooding is a big concern here. reports of about 30 people having to be rescued with a front-end loader. some people calling the worst coastal flooding in 20 years. not the sort of thing you'd associate with this sort of storm. just another problem they're dealing with in this part of the country. chris and robin. >> jeremy, get a hat on. i can hear your mother calling. from wherever she is right now. r one problem is being outside. we hear about people being stuck

80 miles per hour across cape cod. those dangerous winds taking center stage as we continue throughout the day with the blizzard warnings. from boston up to towards northern new england, 40 to 60-mile-an-hour gusts. meanwhile, though we've got a lot of cold and snow, milder temperatures could be entering the nation. dallas could see 60s by the middle of the week. 65 in new orleans. sunshine expected across the four corners region. how about 58 in san antonio, orlando, 54 degrees. the snow continuing across areas, including right here in new york, as well as boston, as this nasty nor'easter continues whipping through the area. so we are dealing with quite a bit of snow and cold at least for now.

around i'll text. sometimes, i'll think i'm invincible. >> reporter: we interviewed 40 high schoolers, many of whom admit they had texted and drive. when it was over, a surprising response. almost every hand went up. and the teens who first admitted they text while driving now had a whole new attitude. >> the saddest part is all of these kids were my age. >> when i first thought, after i saw the movie was putting my phone in the trunk, even in the back seat, i can still reach it. i want nothing to do after watching that video. >> nothing is more important than your life. >> mary lynn said it was hard to make the documentary after her daughter died. "it can wait" will be available to schools, driver's safety classes classes for free. >> we hear about the laws. 30 states have the laws. only as good as enforcement.

adding in people who are discouraged, stopped looking or underbloued, that ed underemployed, that number jumps. now, what can we look for 2011 to be better for employment. tory johnson joins us live from portland, oregon. good morning. how are you doing, tory? >> hey there, robin. i'm great. normally, i would not miss a chance to see your gorgeous face in times square but i'm happy has been tore. >> i know. tory, which job took the biggest hit this year? >> the categories that took the biggest hit are those that we've heard a lot about, construction financial services local and state government. even the postal service took a hit. we managed to add 1.2 million jobs to the private sector. we've got a long ways to go. >> a long ways to go.

which have we seen growth that we could possibly see continuing in the new year? >> well there's a few categories to look at. the first, temporary services temporary work. we added 300,000 jobs. it's still a great way to get your foot in the door. what it looks in establishment and longevity, it often makes up for in flexibility. and it's definitely a way to close the gap in employment. get a pay check and, again, get your foot in the door. also health care. we added 400,000 jobs in health care. no matter what happens with the president's hlt care bill, there's still ample opportunity here. almost always requiring experience, training. your local unemployment office career one stop is a great place to find out what kind of training you might be eligible without having to pay for it. definitely something to look for. also, sales, we added over $150,000 job in services after that category took a significant

beating last year. as companies spend more money, individuals spend more money, that will pick up. and also looking at restaurant hospitality, adding $150,000 more jobs. we're eating out more. those are places to look. >> some rays of hope there. we talk about the millions out of work. but it always comes down to the individual worker. that person out there looking for a job. tory, what lessons for those looking for a job in the new year take? >> i think there's a few things to keep in mind. the first is to look outside of your industry. your industry might have taken a dive, but that doesn't mean that your career has to sink as well. so think about how can you expand the skill set that you have into a different industry. if you did project management or administrative work in the construction or financial services industry, maybe you

want to look at temporary work or health care. a way to leverage those skills in a new area. you also want to increase your skill set. now is definitely the time to invest in additional training or take on additional projects if you already have a job because you're not going to stand out from the competition if there's only one thing that you're really at-g at. being really good at a couple of things is definitely only going to help in the year ahead. lastly, i would say perhaps the most important of all, we all need to redefine what we think of as job security. it used to be we should take a job with somebody else collect that pay check every two weeks, that would be the safe and secure route. and with 26 million americans, as you started out by saying either underemployed, unemployed or discouraged that no longer exists. we have to be the ceo of our own career. i'm really bullish on starting a small business which isn't right

photography, the machine does so much of the heavy lifting for you that seems apparently easy but it's not. you have to get used to the camera. you have to remember it's a machine and work it. >> your advisory is to stay away from blah you call the bull's-eye. let me take a look at one of our pictures. a little critique action. let's see, what do we have from the cuomo family stills that mr. mcnally can take a shot at. they're good looking kids. ma do you see on this photo? >> the kids i have in this picture, they're group, group photography is hard to do. you got to rangel people you got to direct people get them in line. first and foremost thing you can judge from that picture, easiest and best thing to do make it fun. tell people what to do make jokes. shoots lots of frames. if you only shoot a couple and you have ten people in the picture, i guarantee you, everybody is not going to look

okay. >> do you think we have lost the spontaneous moments, where someone is caught in the moment because now we can edit and everybody is trying to get the perfect shot? >> i think actually digital facilitates those moments. you can change the color of somebody's shirt. you can make somebody look completely different. i think the digital technology facilitates that odd grab. the thing about digital, you don't have wait. with film, you don't have to wait two or three days to find out your pictures stink. now you know right there. >> you say still the frame. what does that mean? >> it means get close to your subject. a lot of folks make sure they got the whole family and the entire monument and the sky and everything else. then they look later, they've got everything in the picture and it turns out they've got nothing in the picture.

move the camera in make it vibrant. >> that's a beautiful picture. look how pensive that kid looks staring at that. landscape, so often you say it's so beautiful, it's so hard to capture it. what is a way to make your chances better? >> again, i use a phrase called anchor the foreground. if you can find some item of visual interest in the early part of the picture. there's three parts, foreground middle ground and background if you can grab somebody in the picture that is interesting visually, then you've got them. >> you said frame it. eye level. explain that. >> move the camera around. eye level pictures after a while get boring because it's all the same perspective. say your kid is by the tree opening a present. get down on your stomach, get the kid's point of view. get down there and seat world from heir per inspected tiff.

april 16th, 2007, colin goddard survived one of the deadliest school shootings in history. at virginia tech. the gunman, who suffered from mental illness, killed 32 students and teachers. he killed people in just 17 minutes. the guns he used were purchased legally online. in a brilliant new documentary, "living for 32" profiles colin's efforts to change the laws for buying guns. colin now assistant direct of legislative affairs of the brady campaign. it's a delight to have spent some time with you, colin. you were shot four times. >> that's correct. >> you were in french class. >> right, it was a normal monday in french class.

we heard banging noises coming from outside the room. we didn't think there was any alarm because we had heard construction noises going on the whole semester. once they got a lot closer and lot louder we realized maybe this wasn't construction. the teacher went in the hallway and immediately she shut the door and instructed all of to us get under the desk. and someone to call 911. for the first time in my life, i called 911. i was trying to explain, i think there's someone here shooting. i didn't know what was going on. by the time i got out where we were, which building what floor, the next ten minutes was the craziest ten minutes of my life. >> there were 17 of you in the class? >> there were 17 in the french class, i believe i'm one of the six who are sill alive. >> i noi what this -- i'm just sorry that you had to go through

this. ed that anybody had to experience something like this. you said it wasn't just that, it was other things that you saw after that led you to where you are right now. >> right. i mean it took me a while to get here. it takes a lot of people different amounts of time to get over and move on with their lives when something crazy like this happens. it was watching another shooting unfold on the news that really struck me and motivated me to get involved. i couldn't sit on the sidelines anymore. i had to do something about this. i couldn't let this happen to another family and go through what i went through. i had to do something. >> tell us what you're doing. >> now, i'm in an effort to enforce some of the laws on the book. laws that say those who have felony records, dangerously ill and other factors shouldn't be allowed to buy guns. and i learned that cho bought the guns, if he had done it legally, if his background

record had been there, he wouldn't have gotten the gun. we try to improve the number of records in the system. but also trying to improve how broadly applied that background check system is. right now in america, if you're a dealer, you have to run a background check on anyone who buys from you. if you're a private seller from your collection, you're not required to run a background check. so you can literally go into these places where private sellers congregate, gun shows on the weekends all over the country, you can get your gun and walk out. more importantly, no background check rung. >> and i know you went under cover to expose this. >> yes. >> and you're part of the profile in this new documentary. i want to play a clip now. >> all right. >> for people to see. >> all my guns have never had paperwork. cash and carry. that's it. you're allowed to sell your own collection. >> exactly. >> this whole gun show loophole.
